When you put a Birdsbesafe collar cover onto your cat, it is held on by a breakaway cat collar. The Birdsbesafe cover is made of fabric and shaped like a tube, open at two ends. The cat collar goes inside it, and buckles both onto the cat.

Birdsbesafe collar covers made front page news! Our local and regional newspaper, the Burlington Free Press, featured the story of our product's origin in a three-page cover story, complete with photos of three cats and me, the originator of the product. We recounted the story of the invention (which you can read on our About Us page), and we shared some information about how far the product has come, in our almost ten-year history.

Greetings from Vermont! My home's bird feeder went up for the winter season yesterday, after a spell of cold weather, sleet, rain and snow. This year, it seemed like we went from a day in the 80s, to snow, almost overnight. I thought it was time to put the bird feeder up, and I was right! The birds have been swarming it and I have refilled it twice already. They are so hungry that the Black-capped Chicadees are sharing with the Blue Jays, and the White-breasted Nuthatch will zoom in over the head of the departing Red-breasted Nuthatch.

Our small company has marketed its own invention, the patented Birdsbesafe® cat collar cover, since early in 2009. Yesterday, we celebrated a milestone for our scientifically tested and increasingly popular product. Birdsbesafe® collar covers were listed as an anti-predation device on the website of the American Bird Conservancy, a national bird conservation group.

When we designed the Birdsbesafe® collar cover, we wanted you to be able to use any cat collar that you liked. We still think this is a good idea: your cat may do well with a style of collar that wouldn't work as well for a different cat. Some cats are smaller, larger, stronger, more active, or (sigh) Houdini like in their ability to lose cat collars. Here are some pointers to help you pick a collar that will bring you success!

I feel less guilty when Weasley slips out of the house. I.try to make my yard bird-friendly with a commitment to native plants for them. I'd hate if I were just luring the birds to their death. The collar no longer seems to bother Weasley, yet it seems he is less inclined to slip out. (My daughter says he's embarrarsed to be seen lol).
I just got it and put it on the cat. It fits well. I thought it would wider but it seems ok. I like the reflective edging. I only got for one cat and the other cat started to attack the one with the collar. I’ll report back when I find out how effective it is for the bird situation.
I adore these products I don't know how they work - but they do.

My former roommate's cat started bringing me birds and she now happily accepts her Birdsbesafe collar and has never caught a bird since so I know your collars really work and plus she looks extra adorable.
9 days in K is getting back to exploring her neighborhood. Birds building nests now. They are safer when they eat the low hanging berries.
